Salamanca - Top 10 travel destinations in Spain

Salamanca is a city in Spain that can bewitch any tourist. It is also called the Golden City because its structures are built with gold sandstones that shimmer when hit by sunlight. It has numerous ancient buildings and a fascinating history. One of the main attractions in this city is the Plaza Mayor. It includes a large number of cafés and restaurants that actually give a good view of the square. The House of Shells or Casa de las Conchas is also a lovely tourist spot. It is the most photographed structure in all of Salamanca. It was actually the house of a teacher who was part of the Order of Santiago. Since the scallop shell is the emblem of Santiago de Compostela, the university professor decided to adorn his home with 350 scallop shells as a tribute to Santiago. The Convento de San Esteban or the Convent of St. Stephen is a further honor of Salamanca. You cannot help but admire the large stone altar, which is a remarkable religious sight in the city. Another convent in Salamanca is the Convento de las Dueñas. This is where the nuns of the convent offer traditional pastries to the people.
